Merry Christmas Bowl Picks – Where everyone hopes this week brings greater blessings than the last

with 10 comments

You could say that bowl season started inauspiciously for both of the humbled writers here at College Football Talk. Jon and I both fell flat on our faces witht he first week of bowl games, as you can see here:

Jon:  1-5

Austin:  2-4

Jon picked only the Maaco Las Vegas bowl correctly, taking No. 14 BYU over No. 18 Oregon State.   And I only selected the St. Petersburg Bowl Presented by Beef O’Brady’s (I HATE that bowl name) and San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl correctly.  I don’t know why I only seem to pick right on the bowls with the stupidly long names, but regardless, I did manage to pick up one game on Jon to bring our season totals to….

Jon:  102-56 202-56

Austin:  99-59 199-59

Jon and I are both feeling a lot of upsets, but we disagree on a lot of them.  Which means that at least one of us is going to look very stupid come New Year’s Day.  The picks for the remaining games of 2009…

    • Why not? Too good, too bad, too many, too few…? I should point out that we only started picking week 2, and we only did picks for top 25 games.

  2. well look 3 weeks back we were almost to 200 picks total

    • Sorry, you’re right. I counted from 90 rather than 100 when I was tallying up the new counts. That’s what happens when you try to add two weeks because you get behind. lol. It’s corrected now.

  3. Wow, some very interesting picks going on there. I’m a little bothered that I’m agreeing with a lot of Jon’s picks. 😉

I could see Arizona beating Nebraska, though (not technically an upset, I guess) with Suh being stuffed from all those awards banquets. And you both took Stanford? Even without Luck? Interesting. I think I have Oklahoma in that one (at #34 in confidence, lol)… y’all should throw in some top 3/bottom 3 confidence picks too. 🙂

    • Yeah, I’m shaping up to be the stupid one. Since Kentucky and North Carolina CHOKE. Those performances were ridiculous.

  4. I fared better this stretch than the beginning of the bowl season. Pitt squeeked by for me and Clemson outlasted UK, thank god.

Now Im in another tuff stretch with Georgia for 22 and Bowling green for 21, Mizzou for 26 also. <– thats the one im worried about most and will probably swap values 5 times before kickoff

BTW – not only did I root for USC but they payed off for me, 34 points baby!

2nd place here i come if Georgia wins tonight

  5. I didn’t realize that about Andrew Luck. Is it too late to change my pick? lol

  6. Never send a gopher to do a man’s job. In spite of my error picking Minnesota to help the Big 10 to an undefeated bowl season ( 😉 )… I have managed to move up from 108,315th place in ESPN’s Bowl Mania to a respectable 53,125th place. Yes! C’mon, Hokies!

And in more pertinent news, Jon gains 3 spots on Austin.
